Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus, our children’s best friend.

It is hard to believe that September is almost over.  Please be assured that your children are settling into their daily routines quite well.

JESUS’ TIME:  We will be concluding our lessons on the Creation of the World, stressing how good our wonderful God truly is; how he made us and all things.

MATH:   We have graphing our choices of apple by color.  Our numeral this week is #3 and we have been working with patterning.  We continue to review our shapes.

SOCIAL STUDIES:  With Johnny Appleseed’ birthday on September 24, we will be reading stories about him, singing songs, and playing games about this American folk hero.  Maybe he will even pay us a visit!

LITERATURE:  Eric Carle is our first author of this year.  We have read several of his books:  WILL YOU BE MY FRIEND?, PANDA  BEAR, PANDA BEAR; HEAD TO TOE; and BABY BEAR, BABY BEAR.  All literature is coordinated with our lessons.

SCIENCE:  Science lessons include parts of the apple and seasons of the apple tree as well as parts of the sunflower.

ART:  Painting at the easel has been wonderful. This week we have painted three shades of green.  As Kermit, the frog said, “It isn’t easy being green”.  It is amazing to see the children’s work move from paint storms to developing pictures.  Please look at our wonderful hallways of red, yellow, and green.  In Art class with Mrs. Kerwin we are working on Monet’s “Waterlilies”.

Letters and Sounds:  Our daily morning message has been reinforcing the days of the week and our greetings to one another.  Apple – a and Brown Bear – b are making an appearance.

GROSS MOTOR:  With the weather we have been having our outdoor play has been great.  When indoors we have used the playground balls in the MPR (our gym).

MUSIC:  Using music we march, walk, skip, gallop, and jump as we learn to play percussion instruments.  So far we have played the tambourines, triangles, and drums.

As October looms ahead we look forward to baking, cooking, as well as developing farm units and learning about bats and spiders.
