Greetings! Thank you to everyone who came out for Back to School Night. I appreciate our partnership in your child’s education. Here are the plans for this week:

Seventh Grade Social Studies

This week we are reviewing Chapter 1, and the test will be on Wednesday, September 26th. The students are completing sections 1-4 of the study guide this weekend, and then we will go over the long response questions as a class. On Thursday and Friday, we will get into the early European Explorers, including the Vikings and the controversies of Christopher Columbus and the holiday named for him. We will be discussing whether or not he deserves a holiday, and some of the alternatives to Columbus Day that some communities are now observing.

Eighth Grade Social Studies

In eighth grade social studies we are reviewing the Civil War, and the test will be on Friday, September 28th. The students will begin working on the study guide in class on Monday. The next topic we will cover is how the nation moved forward after the Civil War, during the period of Reconstruction. We will be exploring how the lives of African Americans were affected, both the positive and negative, how the South was officially rejoined to the North, and the long term effects of this time period.

Eighth Grade Religion

After focusing on the life of Abraham last week, we will be learning about his son, Isaac, this week. Many of the events of his life carry lessons that are very much relevant to families and believers of the modern age. The memory verse this week is Galatians 3:26 and 29. This is not specifically from the book, butt he students can study from the link provided, as well as from the Google Classroom. As I mentioned at Back to School Night, here is the Memory schedule for the first trimester.

Have a wonderful week, and please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected].
