Well, we made it through our first full week of school, and are fully into the swing of things. I look forward to seeing all of you at Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 18th. Here are the updates for this week:

7th Social Studies

This week we will be wrapping up chapter 1 by studying the influence of European trade with Africa and Asia leading to the exploration of the New World, as well as political and cultural influences. Toward the end of the week, the students will complete a chapter review packet as well as a study guide. Both will be posted to the Google Classroom, but the students must complete the assignments on paper. You may view the study guide here. The chapter 1 test will be on Wednesday, September 26th.

8th Social Studies

This week we will be wrapping up the Civil War and marching toward a Union victory! We will study the impact of the Emancipation Proclamation, how the war affect the lives of civilians, and the battles that led to a Union (northern) victory. The students will have a test on the Civil War on Friday, September 28th. You may view the study guide here.

8th Religion

This week we will be focusing on the life of Abraham. We will be studying the covenant God made with Abram, and how it was fulfilled. We will then study the topic of prayer in the context of Abraham praying for his home town of Sodom/Gomorrah, tying in the Lord’s Prayer. The memory verse for this week is 2 Corinthians 10:17-18, which is on page 13 of the student book, or here.

Once again, I look forward to seeing each of you at Back to School Night!
