Happy Spirit Week 2018! This is always an exciting week of the school year, and I am looking forward to a little friendly competition among the homerooms. May the best class win! Even though this is Spirit Week, we are moving full speed ahead with our regular academics. Here are the plans for this week.

7th Social Studies

On Tuesday, the students will take their test on Chapter 2. There will be extra help Tuesday morning, and you may view the study guide here. On Wednesday, we will begin to study the settlement of the first English Colonies in America. On of our first topics is always a fun one- the disappearance of the colony at Roanoke, North Carolina. It is always interesting hearing the students’ theories.

8th Social Studies

This week the students are starting of fresh with an entirely new unit. We will begin studying the growth of industry in the United States, beginning with the development of the West. We will learn about mining, railroads, cattle ranching, and how the Native Americans were impacted by this change.

8th Religion

The students are also starting off with a fresh, new unit of study. We will start to study the lives and history of the Israelites following the Exodus from Egypt. On Monday, I will be handing out the outline for the First Trimester Project: The Tough Times Tool Kit. You may view the outline here. We are also back to our regular schedule of memory quizzes. This weeks memory verse is Philippians 4:6-7, which can be found on page 23 of the student book. It is a lengthy verse, so I encourage you to have your child start studying early this week.

Have a wonderful week, and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have.

Blessings to each of you!
