Greetings to one and all! Here are the updates for the upcoming week:

6th Social Studies

On Monday, the students will present their Greek mythology projects. The students have had a great time learning how each of the characters from mythology are linked to one another, as well as how they are still relevant in today’s culture. Next, we will study what is considered Classical Greece. We will study Sparta vs. Athens, Alexander the Great, and the achievements of this period of Greek culture. The students will tentatively have their test on Chapter 9 on Wednesday, March 11th. More details will be posted next week.

6th Religion

This week we are focusing on the second king of Israel- David. We will learn about his early life, his fight with Goliath, and his rocky relationship with the first king, Saul. The memory verse for this week is John 6:40, which is on page 59 in the student book.

7th Social Studies

For the first half of this week, the students will be working on writing songs or skits based on the freedoms guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. They will perform their songs and skits on Wednesday. Then, we will begin reviewing for the test on chapter 7. The test will be on Wednesday, March 11th. You may view the study guide here.

8th Social Studies

For much of this week, the students will be working on researching heroes of the 1920s, and putting together presentations on their lives and why these people are still cultural icons 100 years later. Then, we will finish up our study of the 1920s with a lesson on the economy, and how there were many signs that the Great Depression was on the horizon.

8th Religion

This week, like 6th grade religion, 8th grade is also studying the life of Israel’s second king, David. We will be focusing on his personal traits that made him a good leader, as well as his own personal spiritual journey. The memory verse this week is Isaiah 40:31, which is on page 69 in the student book.
