Welcome back for a new week here at Trinity. This week we are celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week along with thousands of Lutheran schools across the United States. We will be doing special activities in religion class, as well as a few school wide activities. Here are the rest of the updates for this week.

6th Social Studies

This week we are wrapping up our unit on Ancient China. We will be studying the Qin and Han dynasties as a class, and then the students will be doing research projects to dig deeper into  the achievements of Ancient China. Next, we will be switching gears completely as we start our study of Ancient Greece.

6th Religion

In religion class, we are currently working on creating comics based on the Battle of Jericho. Next, we will be studying the book of Judges, specifically Deborah and Samson. The memory verse for this week is Proverbs 16:3, on page 49 in the student book. There will tentatively be a test on Unit 2 next Tuesday. More details will follow later this week.

7th Social Studies

This week we are getting into the actual start of the American Revolution. We will start by reviewing the events that led to the colonies declaring independence, then we will study the Battle of Bunker Hill, the first major battle of the war. Later in the week we will spend time studying the Declaration of Independence, the actual words and the ideas that have inspired many leaders from the 18th century on.

8th Social Studies

This week we are studying the early days of World War I, as well the technology that made it the first “modern” war. The students will be doing some research to learn a little more about the topics that the textbook only briefly mentions- technology, propaganda, why Germany was so intent on attacking the U.S., and why Russia withdrew from the war. Then, we will study the war effort on the home front, which will be followed up with a seminar discussion on whether or not the U.S. government should spy on citizens.

8th Religion

In religion this week we are studying one of the most infamous of the Judges, Samson. We will be studying his strengths, his weaknesses, his downfall, and ultimate redemption. Then, we will learn about the story of Ruth, which teaches us many lessons, including a model for family relationships, and following and trusting in God above all. The memory verse for this week is Philippians 2:13, which is on page 59 of the student book.
