Greetings to one and all! Over the next two weeks we are going to tie up loose ends before Christmas. Therefore, the students will be bucking down and will need to work diligently to meet our goals and deadlines.

6th Social Studies

In class this week we are studying the achievements and culture of India. The students will be researching the topics we cover in class and will be creating Google Slides presentations that they will present to their classmates. At the end of this week we will begin reviewing the chapter. The test will be on Thursday, December 19th.

6th Religion

This week we will continue the story of the Exodus from Egypt. We will be learning about Moses’ family as well as the Tabernacle, the portable temple where the Israelites worshiped God. The memory verse this week is Numbers 6:24-26, which is on page 37 in the student book. This passage might already be familiar as it is widely used as the benediction for many worship services.

7th Social Studies

This week the students will present their research projects on Gullah culture. Many of them asked if they could cook a Gullah recipe to share with the class. I told them that they may, but it is not required. After the presentations, we will wrap up the chapter with learning about the religious beliefs and new philosophies that were spreading through the colonies, such as the Great Awakening and the Enlightenment. The student will take their test on chapter 4 on Thursday, December 19th.

8th Social Studies

In eighth grade we are doing a quick study of the Gilded Age and the Progressive Era. We will cover political reform, the Women’s Suffrage movement, as well as early African American civil rights leaders such as Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Dubois. Instead of a traditional chapter test, the students will complete a Document Based Question essay next Tuesday and Wednesday.

8th Religion

This week we are starting off with the students presenting the eulogies they wrote to honor Moses. Then, the next two lessons will deal with the conquest of the Promised Land under the leadership of Joshua. This will wrap up unit 2. The unit test will be next Thursday, December 19th. The memory verse for this week is on of my favorite Bible passages, Psalm 46:1, 7, which is on page 49 in the student book.

Have a wonderful week!
