Welcome back! Here is the news for this week.

7th Social Studies

The seventh grade will begin learning about the Era of Thomas Jefferson (chapter 9) this week. As part of our study, we will be watching a National Geographic documentary about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. This film is only about 40 minutes long, but it does a wonderful job of documenting the varied terrain and the many challenges faced by the expedition. Then, we will learn about ongoing conflicts the U.S. had with Britain, France, and the Barbary Pirates. Yes, pirates. A very interesting week for for seventh grade social studies!

8th Social Studies

This week we will be focusing on How the U.S. contributed to World War II, both soldiers and civilians. As you well aware of, we will only have class Monday through Wednesday, because we get to see history come alive as we visit Washington, D.C. Thursday and Friday. An extra copy of the itinerary was given out today, so please check that your child brought it home. We are all very excited for our big trip!

8th Religion

This week we will have class on Monday and Tuesday, and the central focus is following God’s will, and not our own. We will see how God used the prophet Isaiah to save His people for the Assyrians, and how God chose a very reluctant Jonah to prophesy to the people of Nineveh. Another major theme this week is that God’s forgiveness is for everyone, no matter what, which is always a wonderful reminder.
