The information in this post will be for this week and the three days of next week before the Easter Vacation.

READING – The essential question this week is, “In what ways is the Atlantic Ocean special?” To help us answer the question we will read the stories, One-Dog Canoe, Atlantic, and Poems About the Sea. Our high frequency words are: will, into, your, be, that, and who. The beginning and ending “r” sound will be introduced and the class will continue to blend and segment sounds to read new words. The students will also learn how context clues can help them understand the meaning of an unfamiliar word, and discuss verbs in the future tense. We will practice reading with expression by reading the stories, Will It Be Big? and Rip Is It  in our Readers.

MATH – We have completed Chapter 8 and will have a Math test Tuesday, April 9. Study materials were sent home in your child’s folder on Friday, 4/5. Our next major area of study is Geometry. Chapter 9 will focus on two-dimensional shapes. The first shapes to identify, describe, and compare will be circles and squares.

RELIGION – Our discussions and activities will center on the events that occurred before and including Christ’s death and resurrection.

HANDWRITING – Our letters are “G-g” and “J-j.”

SCIENCE – We are continuing our investigations of butterflies and other insects.
