READING – Our essential question is: “How do animals use their different body parts?” We will answer the question by reading the stories, A Zebra’s World, What Do You Do With a Tail Like This? and Poems About Animals. The stories from our Readers are, “What Can You See?” and “Fat Cat.” Our two new high frequency words are, “you” and “what,” and the initial “f” sound will be learned and used to blend with previously learned sounds for word building skills. In grammar we will identify complete sentences.   Continue to practice reading all high frequency words and blending phonemes learned thus far to promote reading fluency.

MATH – In subtraction we are writing our own subtraction sentences and learning how to determine the number they start with. We will also be solving addition and subtraction problems by using objects or drawings to represent the problem. The class will complete the chapter by the end of the week and have a test next Tuesday, 2/12

RELIGION – The students will discuss that Jesus is with us and we need not be afraid, and Jesus is always there to help us if we pray and ask Him.

SCIENCE – We’re continuing to explore the forms of water and its relationship to snow.

SOCIAL STUDIES – We will read the story, The Mitten, and discuss how life back then compares to our lives today. In relationship to reading, we will discuss the author’s purpose, and the difference between fiction and non-fiction in respect to the animals in the story.

HANDWRITING – Our letter is “D-d.”
