READING- Lesson 10 is a review lesson. The essential question, ” What can we create with shapes?” will be answered as we read and discuss the stories, David’s Drawings, Mouse Shapes, and Signs and Shapes. We will review identifying beginning sounds of  “m, s, t, c, p, a” and medial “a” in words, and blend sounds to read words. ( Example: b-a-t, bat, c-a-p, cap etc.) We will focus on the high frequency words, “see, we, a, to,” but your child should also know how to read the words from Unit 1 as well. The students will classify and categorize shape words, learn how to summarize a story, and use adjectives for size and shape. The Unit 2 test will be on Tuesday, 1/15.

MATH- The students are excited to be learning addition and the parts of a Math equation. This week they will learn number pairs to 9. A number pair is the two numbers when added together equal another number. (Example: The number pairs for 5 are, 1+4, 4+1, 2+3, 3+2.)

RELIGION- We are completing the visit of the Wise Men and a review of the Christmas story.

HANDWRITING- Our letter this week is “T-t.” Once your child learns how to place a letter on the lines they will be expected to write it correctly on all assignments.

WEEKLY READER- The students will read about how to make Gingerbread.

SCIENCE- Changes that have taken place from Autumn to Winter will be discussed. As you travel in your car you can point to some of these changes.

REMINDERS

On Tuesday, 1/15 we will have our Unit 2 Reading test. Review sheets and the Reader’s Notebook will be sent home for you to use to help our child review. The Reader’s Notebook must be returned daily.
