Welcome to Mrs. Flomer’s Notes
Here’s a look at what we will be doing this week!
Spelling- The new words for this week are: so, go, home, hole, no, rope, joke, bone, stove, poke. Since there are now 10 spelling words, I will only be including 4 of the “R” book words on the spelling tests (they are on the spelling list). They will still need to be able to read all of the “R” book words fluently for the vocabulary portion of the reading tests. The children will write their spelling words 3x each by Tuesday. They should write 8 sentences by Thursday. Please encourage your child to write sentences with at least 5 words in each sentence, and they can try to use more than one spelling word in a sentence. As the children are progressing so well in their writing skills, they can try to use their spelling words to write a story!
Spelling test will be on Friday.
Phonics- long o and u
Language Arts- questions; suffixes; narrative writing
Reading: We have started our 4th reading book! The story this week is Let’s go to the Moon! Please have your child read it at home before the test. We have completed the first of two reading workbooks, which was sent home. The “R” book words are: around, bring, show, because, carry, think, before, and light. The reading tests will be given on Friday. The format of the reading tests will change from now on, but the children still have to know the same things: comprehension, phonics, vocabulary and grammar.
Math- comparing numbers: using the >,<,= signs
Science- Light
Social Studies- book 3- Life long ago-Pilgrims
Religion- Jesus' Miracles
Weekly Reader- Our First President

The children should be reviewing ALL of their “R” book words each week, as they are sight words that the children should be able to read fluently.
We are going to have a Valentine card exchange on Thursday, as we did for Christmas cards. A class list was already sent home.
Thursday is a non-uniform Red Day for all students. We will have special red snacks for Valentines Day!
