I hope everyone enjoyed the long Memorial Day weekend. We are in the home stretch of first grade! The children have grown so much!

Spelling- There are no new words for this week. We had the test last Thursday on the lesson 27 words. The children will receive list 28 on Friday. I am sure that you are happy to hear there are only 3 more spelling lists! Please make sure that your child writes the sentences on their own, using at least 5 words in each sentence and receiving help only to spell an unfamiliar word.

Phonics- words with –er and –est
The test is Wednesday. The students will have to know when to use the –er ending (if comparing 2 things) and –est ending (comparing more than 2 things). They must remember the rule of changing a y at the end of a word to an i before adding –er or –est.

Language Arts- types of sentences

Reading: We continue with lesson 27 and the story: What Can You Do? The tests for this story will be given on Wednesday. We will begin lesson 28 next Monday.

Math- We are on the last chapter: 2-D Geometry

Social Studies- Book 5: Our Government

Class News

We are getting excited about 2 events coming up…

This Friday is Field Day! The children should wear their red Trinity shirts, or any red t-shirt if they don’t have the Trinity shirt, and shorts.

Next Wednesday is our trip to the Vanderbilt Planetarium to see the show “Take a Wild Ride through the Solar System”. Weather permitting we will have a picnic lunch on the beautiful grounds there. The children should bring lunch and drinks with them to the planetarium (no glass bottles please).

The children may keep a water bottle in class since the warmer weather is finally here!

If anyone has sharpened pencils at home, please send them in!

Have a great week!
Mrs. Flomer
