What a wonderful first week of pre-k! I am enjoying getting to know everyone through our class discussions and small group work.

This week our Language Arts unit continues with the topic “Making Friends”. We will read the books Friends at School, and A Splendid Friend Indeed. Our vocabulary words will be friends, play, and help.

For math we will learn positional words with the math mat “Where is it?” Words will include above, below, in front of, behind, and next to. We will also review yellow, square, and #2. We will play I Spy Yellow, and read the book Pick a Circle, Gather Squares. As we continue to explore apples, we will graph which apple we like the best, red, yellow, or green.

For Jesus time we will begin our unit on Creation. This week we will learn about creation days 1, 2, and 3. We will also learn a creation song, and make a creation craft.

We will continue to explore apples this week with an apple Weekly Reader, and the story Apple Tree’s Discovery. On Monday we will taste the different colors of apples and graph which color we like the best. On Friday we will taste apple pie. We will also plant an apple seed and watch it sprout, and we will put some apple skins in a pot of dirt to learn about decomposition.

Some of our classroom art projects include painting yellow to create a sunflower, and watercoloring a sunflower surprise.

We will begin going to our specials this week. Our schedule is as follows: Monday afternoon Computer, Tuesday morning Art, Tuesday afternoon Library, Wednesday morning Gym, and every other Wednesday we will attend chapel. Thankfully our playground across the street has been freshened up and we will be able to use it in the morning and the afternoon.

Remember to send in your permission slips for the pumpkin farm trip on October 11th.

Have a blessed week!
