This month our Language Arts unit is “Our Community”, beginning with the theme “Places We Go”. We will read the stories Lola at the Library, and A Good Night Walk. We will also watch the animated version of the story Knuffle Bunny. Our vocabulary will be: community, building, library, firehouse, and hospital. We will examine an educational poster about community, and as a response to the story Lola at the Library, we will construct a community map.

Our letter this week will be Gg. We will read the story “Goofy Ghost”, sing a Gg song, and create a Green Glitter G to add to our alphabet book. Please, please remember to help your child choose a Gg item from home to bring in and share with the class on Friday.

For math this week will review sorting, #9, as well as the other numbers we have done so far, and the color pink. We will play a “What’s missing?” game that helps children to develop higher level thinking and logical reasoning skills.

For Jesus time this month we will begin talking about people in the bible who were thankful. We will begin the week learning about Joshua and the battle of Jericho, and later in the week we will learn about Hannah. We will learn some new thankful songs as well. We will also be visiting chapel on Wednesday this week. Each month I introduce the children to a new prayer that we say at snack and lunch time. September was “Johnny Appleseed”, October was “God is Great”, and this month we will learn a thankful prayer: Thank you for the world so sweet, thank you for the food we eat, thank you for the birds that sing, thank you God for everything. Amen

Our science center and lessons this week will focus on the changing and falling leaves. We will read the stories Going on a Leaf Hunt, I am a Leaf, Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf, and The Leaves are Falling. We will also do a Weekly Reader called “An Autumn Walk”, and we ourselves will go for leaf hunt around the school and look for different colors and shapes of leaves. We will then bring them back to the classroom to fill our sensory table, and to use for a fun project.

On Friday we will discuss Veteran’s Day through the use of another Weekly Reader. School will be closed on Monday November 11th in observance of Veteran’s Day.

Have a blessed week!
