I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! Thank you veterans for all of your hard work and dedication to keeping us safe.

This week we continue our community unit with the topic “People We Meet”. Our vocabulary will be: doctor, firefighter, mail carrier, police officer, and work. We will read the stories Jobs, Dot the Fire Dog, and ABC Drive. We will also reread Good Night Walk by listening to it on the CD.

This week we will learn the letter Hh and read the story “Happy Hippo” and learn and Hh song. We will also make an H is for Hand craft.

For math we will review #10 and the color grey. We will also review all of the numbers we have covered so far this year. We will take a look at the book Anno’s Counting Book and practice counting objects through the seasons. We will learn the words “closer and farther” as we discuss the concept of distance. We will also learn a finger play called “10 Little Firefighters”, and we will have our acorn counting mats during center time.

Our science this week will focus on squirrels. We will read a nonfiction book Squirrels All Year Long, as well as a fiction book The Nutty Nut Chase. I have been discussing with the children the difference between fiction and nonfiction. We will also make a cute squirrel project with a big fluffy tail. Due to last week’s crazy weather we were not able to go on our leaf walk, so we will hopefully be able to go this week. In the sensory table we will have toy squirrels along with acorns and wood slices for the children to explore and to increase their imaginative play.

For Jesus time this week we continue to remember to be thankful. First we will read about Samuel and remember to be thankful for our school. Later in the week we will read about David and Jonathan and remember to be thankful for friends.

We will also read the books The Scarecrow’s Hat and The Lonely Scarecrow and make a cute torn paper scarecrow craft that is a great small motor activity.

Important reminders:

  • Please send in $3 and the permission slip for your child to participate in the Turkey Trot following the Thanksgiving Feast.
  • Yankee Candle forms will still be accepted this week so please send them in ASAP

Have a blessed week everyone!
