Happy New Year and welcome back!
This week we begin a new Language Arts unit about Awesome Animals. Our first topic will be “All Kinds of Animals”. We will read Biggest, Strongest, Fastest, Is Your Mama a Llama?, Roar, and Dot the Firedog.Our new vocabulary will be: animal, climb, feathers, fly, fur, scales, and swim.
Our letter this week will be Mm. We will read “Merry Mouse”, learn an Mm song, and create a M is for Mouse project. We will also resume bringing in objects for the letter of the week this Friday.
For math we will be doing some comparisons of animal sizes as we incorporate the words biggest, tallest, longest, height, length, order, and compare. We will also begin to learn the numbers #11-20, beginning with #11 this week.
For Jesus time we will begin learning about Epiphany on Monday, Wednesday we will visit chapel, and later in the week we will learn about Jesus as a little boy.
Some seasonal activities will include learning a new movement song called Freeze and Melt, hearing a fun story and song called Chicken Soup with Rice that reviews the months of the year, and learning about arctic animals including penguins and snowy owls. In our sensory table we will have glaciers and icebergs and arctic animals to play with. We will also have white, sparkly “snow” play dough and lots of snowman puzzles during center time.
