Happy February! I am Ms. Seemangal and I’m very excited to be covering for Ms. Dugan for the upcoming weeks.

We will start off the week by reviewing Groundhog Day.  We touched on Groundhog Day and shadows last week and the children will have the opportunity to talk about whether or not Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and what that means.

This week we will start a new unit focused on imagination. Children will learn how imagination and creativity shape our world. We will read Not a Box, The Shape of Things, and Ten Black Dots. We will use our imagination and blast off on an imaginary trip.  We will explore ordinary items and use our imaginations to make them extraordinary. Our new vocabulary words will be: create, imagine, imagination, and pretend.

We will start to talk about Valentine’s Day and work on some crafts for next week including making Valentine’s for Veterans. Our letter this week is Q.  We will lean a Q song and make a quilt project.  Children are encouraged to bring in an item from home that starts with the letter Q for show and tell on Friday, February 7th.

For math we will be learning the concept of counting and reviewing shapes in the real world.  We will continue to use the 10-frame to count to 10, recognize numbers and we will learn that when we count, we count to find out how many. They will learn the term quantity. Our number for this week is 14.

For Jesus time we will learn about the Baptism of Jesus.  We will visit Chapel this week where the children will get a visit from our Comfort Dog.  They will learn about him and get the opportunity to pet him.

On Tuesday we will visit the library.  Please remember to return any library books that have been borrowed in order to borrow another book.

Have a blessed week!
