Week 3

“The important thing is to not stop questioning.” – Albert Einstein

We are off to a great start. I am truly enjoying getting to know all the students in the class. We have a Zoom Back to School night on Tuesday night. This will be a first for me! It is my understanding that the main office will be forwarding the link to the Zoom meeting on Monday. I am looking forward to working together with all of you.

The children continue to amaze me. They are doing such a great job with their chromebooks.  Please make sure that your child brings her/his fully charged chromebook to school everyday. If your child has headphones, s/he may bring them to school, as well.

Scholastic book orders forms are being sent home this week. They are due on Monday, September 28th.  You can always order books online by going to Scholastic.com/readingclub  and using our classroom code GZBYH.

Students will be getting their Think Central codes this week. I will be discussing Think Central at Back to School Night.

Math: We are continuing to work addition strategies for 3-digit numbers. On Friday we are having a quiz that will cover vocabulary, adding odd and even numbers, using compatible numbers to estimate sums, and summing 2- and 3- digit numbers. We will be focusing on the following vocabulary words: Commutative Property of Addition, round, compatible numbers, estimate, and Associative Property of Addition. Here is a link to the vocabulary words.

Religion: The students are how important faith in God is and that Jesus wants us to love one another. Our prayer video this week is Love God, Love People by Danny Gokey

Social Studies: We are beginning our unit on Mexico. The students will locate Mexico on the map. They will be able to describe where it is geographically located, the different types of land formation, the plants and animals, as well as what it is like living in different climates.  They will learn the following vocabulary words: geography, land formation, plains, plateau, volcano, rain forest, and climate.

ELA:  We are going to be working with the September issue Storyworks 3 this week. Our focus will be on finding supporting details, problem and solution, compare and contrast, genres, and theme. There are no spelling words this week.
