This Week in Art

Remember — all student entries for the Doodle4Google Art Contest are due to Mrs. Kerwin by Wed., March 11, 2020.

ECC Classes will finish up gluing on all the pieces to their Polar Bear Masks.  They came out adorable!

Kindergarten — this week we will complete our Paper Sculpture Jungle Gym using all the coil and fold techniques we learned on our first day of the lesson.

Gr. 1 — (M. Chagall )  The class will analyze the work of Marc Chagall looking for “the things he does to make his artwork seem like a dream.”  Then we will draw a picture of a dream we have had or would like to have.

Gr. 2 — Second Graders will study the works of different artists and how they view various occupations.  After this the class will draw a picture of an occupation they think they might want to have in their future.

Gr. 3 — This class will need one more class to finish up their beautiful yarn design creations.

Gr. 4 — Fourth graders have viewed “The Elevation of the Cross,” “Descent from the Cross,” and “The Crucifixion” by artist Peter P. Rubens.  Special attention was paid to Rubens’ detail in depicting the movement and weight of Christ’s body as well as the skeleton and muscular functions of the human body.

Gr. 5 — A study of the Stained Glass process culminating with a student made cellophane and construction paper project will be the focus of this week’s lesson.

Gr. 6 — Sixth graders will be finishing up their Sports Jersey designs this week.

Gr. 7 — Based on a quick assessment so far I can safely say our seventh graders have got down the concept of weaving. They’ve learned that they need to focus on not pulling too tight at the ends to keep their mug rugs from looking like an hourglass shape.  Some students are already planning out their color schemes so they know when to switch and rewind their shuttles with a new color of yarn.  Always a learning process that finds some students even saying, “Can I make another?”

Gr. 8 — The Rotational Symmetry Name Design project takes a great deal of patience in the beginning.  However, when the whole paper is finally traced over and the student starts adding color, a resurgence of energy takes over.  Finally, adding more colors in a pattern, the design is complete!

Art Elective– This week we will learn about the art of Quilling.  Students will get a short history of quilling, learn some techniques and will get to view some samples of quilling projects before they begin one of their own.

Keep Creating and Enjoy Your Week!
