Happy New Year to All!

ECC Classes — This week we will paint the beautiful background of our Snowy Day project using dyed shaving cream.  This project coincides with the reading of the book The Snowy Day by author Ezra Jack Keats.  The project captures Peter’s adventures in the snow after the very first snowfall of Winter.

Kindergarten — Snowman Collage ~ students will finish pasting on const. paper cut outs to add details to their collage. They will learn how to draw snowflakes to add to the background.

Gr. 1 — Snowmen at Night ~  First graders will continue this week adding details to their drawings.  They will learn how the moon casts shadows on objects at night and will be shown how artists depict shadows with color and shading.  Art concepts/elements such as horizon line, movement and space will be reinforced.

Gr. 2 — Winter Trees ~ Second graders will start a lesson on perspective using the elements of color, space, size and shape. More to follow next week.

Gr. 3 — Our Third Grade class will finish their weaving lesson this week.  We definitely have some Master Weavers in this class!

Gr. 4 — Architecture ~ The students will learn how to craft flat and peaked-roof structures out of construction paper.  Details such as windows, doors, chimneys etc. will be added with felt tip pens.

Gr. 5 — Snowman at Night ~  Grade Five students will have a more in-depth lesson on perspective, movement, and space using chalk pastels.  They will focus on the action of one snowman demonstrating an activity at night and will add shadows and dimension using various blending techniques.

Gr. 6 — This class will be finishing up their Portrait Drawings of another student in the class.

Gr. 7 — These students will continue working on a Split-Face Self Portrait depicting one realistic side and the other side an abstract of their personality.

Gr. 8 — This week we will complete the Fingerprint Frenzy project using fingerprints to create an action drawing.

Art Elective — This class will be using acrylics to paint the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights onto wood. They will use fine point brushes to paint details in black with the swirled colors of dazzling lights in the background.  ***All students are reminded to bring an old shirt to cover their uniform.

Keep Creating and Enjoy Your Week!
