This Week in Art

Attention All K-8 Students  ~  This year’s Doodle for Google Art Contest theme is “I Show Kindness By…” and invites you to open up your creative hearts and show us all the ways you find to be kind.  By now you should have already taken home a parent/guardian letter explaining all the details of this optional, exciting and rewarding art contest.  You may also check out doodle4google.com for more information.  Any K-8 student who sends in an appropriate and completed entry form and/or doodle will receive extra credit onto their art grade.  The deadline for submissions to Mrs. Kerwin is Wed., March 11, 2020.  Should you have any questions please email Mrs. Kerwin at [email protected].  Good luck to all!

ECC Classes ~ This week we are excited to make our beautiful, sun catcher mittens to decorate our classroom windows.

Kindergarten ~  Kindergartners will learn how artists see Time of Day in their artwork.  We will look for “clues” in the artists’ paintings to determine if the piece is portraying Daytime or Nighttime.  Then we will draw and color a picture showing a scene taking place in the daytime or nighttime.

Gr. 1 ~  We will finish up our “Shades of Red” magazine collage this week.

Gr. 2 ~  This class will finish their Winter Trees Collage by gluing on trees and adding one other image found outside in the season of winter.

Gr 3 ~ Third Grade will paint over their birch trees and peel off the tape underneath when the paint has dried. They will learn how to correctly shade the trees with paint and add texture to their trees. Lastly, the class will add snow, moonlight and a sprinkle of iridescent glitter for a glistening effect.

Gr. 4 ~ Our class will get a lesson in figure drawing this week and some of us will take turns being a model.

Gr. 5 ~ This is our final class to add the last details to our chalk pastel Snowman drawings.

Gr. 6 ~ Do you know what a Pyrapet is?  A pyrapet is a pyramid-shaped pet made out of construction paper and assorted assemblage materials.  Be sure to ask your 6th grader which pet they are constructing.

Gr. 7 ~ Seventh Graders will enjoy a lesson in Weaving on a cardboard loom.  After a brief history on weaving they will learn correct weaving terminology and technique so they can weave their very own Mug Rug!  A favorite project for 7th graders.

Gr. 8 ~ We are all very busy trying to find and paste down colorful images to represent our personality and fill in the space of our silhouette. The Personality/Silhouette Magazine Collage is also a favorite amongst eighth graders.

Art Elective ~ We are starting a new project this week as we design a coaster made out of tile and acrylic paints.

Keep Creating and Enjoy your Week!
