Greetings and blessings to all! We are starting our second full week of classes, and I can already tell that this is going to be a wonderful year together. I am especially looking forward to seeing each of you at Back to School Night, on Tuesday, September 19th at 7:00 p.m. We will begin in the church for a greeting from Ms. Mazza and Pastor Hopkins, and then you will follow your child’s Wednesday schedule. As far as the students go, here are our plans for this week:

7th Social Studies

We are already wrapping up our first chapter. We have studied many of the cultures and ideas that influenced the exploration and eventual founding of the United States. This week the students will complete a chapter review as well as a detailed study guide to help prepare for their Chapter 1 Test on Friday, September 22nd. I will link a copy of the study here on Tuesday. Extra help will be available Tuesday after school.

8th Social Studies

In eighth grade social studies, we are in the middle of our study of the Civil War. The students have been learning about the people involved and how the decisions of just one person could affect tens of thousands of troops. This week we are going to study the Emancipation Proclamation and how the Civil War affected civilians. The students will likely take their test on the Civil War on Friday, September 29th. More information will be posted next week.

8th Religion

The eighth grade religion class has had many lively discussions about how themes from Genesis, such as original sin and God’s mercy, tie in with present day issues. This week we will talk about applying the story of the Great Flood to our everyday lives, as well as the Tower of Babel. The students have had many inquisitive questions and insightful comments to add to discussions so far, and I hope to see this continue. The memory verse for this week is 2 Corinthians 10:17-18, which can be found on page 13 of the student book, or here.
