Greetings to all! I am so happy to be back in the classroom with your children. They are truly a blessing, and I think we are going to have a wonderful year together. For new parents, I will will post updates each week of what we are studying in each class, as well as information on upcoming tests, study guides, and other links that might be helpful. Here is what we are working on this week:

7th Social Studies

This week the seventh grade students will will continue the different cultures and traditions that shaped America. We are focusing on the early Native American cultures, and influences from Africa, Asia, and Europe. Many ideas in this chapter provide the link between sixth grade world history and seventh grade U.S. history. Right now, the students are working on creating their own glyphs, inspired by the Mayan culture. They will be on display for Back to School Night.

8th Social Studies

The eighth grade classes are picking up right where we left off in seventh grade. We reviewed slavery in the U.S. and what caused the 19th century divisions between the north and south. This is leading us directly in to the Civil War. This week, we will be focusing especially on the personal experiences of those affected by the war, in addition to the early battles. What has stood out to the students so far is how strategic President Lincoln had to be when making decisions during the early days of his presidency. Toward the end of this week, we will be studying the Emancipation Proclamation, which was also a major part of Lincoln’s overall strategy.

8th Religion

In religion, the students will be studying Genesis chapters 1-11 this week. We will be focusing on how sin changed the world, and how God still had a plan to save His people. The first memory quiz will be Friday, September 15th. The verse is Matthew 4:16 (ESV version), which is found on page 9 of the student book. You can access the memory schedule for the first trimester here.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. Also, blessings to all of you and a big thank you to all who served as first responders for the tragic event that happened 16 years ago. We appreciate your selfless sacrifice.
