Happy almost Thanksgiving, everyone! I hope everyone has a blessed holiday with your family and friends. Here are the plans for our short week of school.

7th Social Studies

On Monday, due to the Turkey Trot, I will not meet with the classes. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we are going to do a research activity comparing the first Thanksgiving celebration in Plymouth with our modern day traditions. After our break, we will move on to Chapter 4, Life in the Colonies.

8th Social Studies

On Monday and Tuesday,we will study urbanization and why so many people moved to the big cities in the early years of the 20th century. On Wednesday, we will be having a Monopoly tournament. This is not just for fun, but ties in with the curriculum. The concept of Monopoly and the characters in the game were inspired by the entrepreneurs we have studied, such as Andrew Carnegie. Also, the locations on the traditional board are real locations from Atlantic City, New Jersey, which began to gain popularity as a vacation destination in the early 1900s. In order to make this tournament happen, I will need a few students to bring in Monopoly games for the day.

8th Religion

This week we are focusing on the Old Testament Tabernacle, and how it ties in with our modern day church buildings and worship traditions. This will lead into the 2nd Trimester project, which will be assigned after Thanksgiving. There is no memory verse this week.

It was a pleasure talking with all of you at conferences this past week. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected].
