Early Childhood

Early Childhood Program in Long Island

It is our purpose to prepare our Pre-K children for a structured full-day kindergarten program such as we offer at Trinity Lutheran K-8 day school.

For preschool children, play is their work!  Through play, young children are developing important pre-reading and pre-writing skills, becoming familiar with basic math and science concepts, exercising imagination and creativity, and gaining social skills, all setting the foundation for more formal learning.  Our preschool children are engaged in a balance of different activities: indoor and outdoor, active and quiet, individual and group, child-initiated and adult directed.

Classrooms are stimulating and rich with words.  Readiness work with colors, shapes, numbers, and letters are presented through activities and stories.  Play centers are a part of each day at Trinity, presenting such opportunities as block building, puzzles, sand/water play, housekeeping, manipulatives, and imaginative play. Arts and crafts and small group activities are also offered.  Each day the children have the opportunity for physical activities on the enclosed playground, weather permitting, or in our large indoor multipurpose room.  This room is well suited to running and exercising, movement activities with playground balls, tricycles, hoola hoops and ribbons, and parachute play.

Emotional growth and social skills are developed as children learn to work and play cooperatively in a group, adapt to routines, and grow in self-confidence, responsibility, and independence. Our children learn of God’s love for them through Bible stories and songs at “Jesus Time” each day.  Twice each month the 3′s and 4′s go into the church and gather around the altar for brief, informal chapel times.
