This Thursday is the end of our second marking quarter.  Report cards will be available online next week.

We will use the new marking quarter to begin a few new methods and routines in our classroom.  Regarding behavior, we have already begun a new system in our classroom using beads.  Each day the students begin their day with five beads.  Their personal goal is to keep all five (which we call “Five Alive”).  If necessary, a student may have to put a bead in the “Give Back” jar when they aren’t following our classroom rules.  At the end of each day, students put their remaining beads in a jar marked “GOALS.”  The class goal is to get 10 extra minutes of free time once they have filled the jar up to the first line on the jar.  This system is designed to help the students achieve their personal best, as well as enable them to work together to accomplish something as a group.  Several students kept “Five Alive” the first week!
