Welcome back!  I hope everyone enjoyed their winter break.  The students are back and ready to learn as we begin all new chapters and units in our academic subjects.

This week we are celebrating Read Across America.  Students will be doing more independent reading in school.  Please consider reading with them at home as well.  Promoting life long love of reading is so important!

Week of: February 26 – March 2

Reading: Anchor text “Sacagawea”; vocabulary – territory, accompany, proposed, interpreter, duty, supplies, route, corps, clumsy, landmark; Read aloud, Sarah Palin and Tall

Grammar: Abbreviations for people, places, mailing addresses, time, and measurement

Writing: Finish Superhero stories

Spelling: million, collect, lumber, pepper, plastic, borrow, support, thirty, perfect, attend, canyon, traffic, fortune, danger, soccer, engine, picture, survive, seldom, effort

Math: Adding and subtracting fractions using models

Science: Unit 5 Lesson 1 What are Some External Structures of Animals?

Social Studies: Chapter 7 Lesson 1 The Life of Settlers

TESTS THIS WEEK:

  • Friday – Spelling, Reading, Grammar

IMPORTANT NEWS:

  • Wednesday we will be visiting the Scholastic Book Fair.  Please send money with your child on Wednesday if you would like them to purchase a book(s).
  • On Friday there will be a dress down day to go along with Read Across America.  Students may dress as their favorite book character with a $5 donation to the fundraiser.
  • Notices will be going home this week to replenish your child’s school supplies.  Many students are out of pencils and crayons.  Please be sure to look for the notes and have supplies to school by Monday, March 5th
